Dimensions in Motion

Everyday transport is not only tough for the container chassis, but also for the drivers. Every day, they transport different containers from one place to the next, and often these are containers of different sizes.

Adjusting flexible container chassis to the right container size can be tedious and dangerous. The KRONE Box Liner Automatic can help. The innovation: the chassis can not only be automatically adjusted to the optimum container size, but can also be coupled and uncoupled automatically.

How the Box Liner Automatic works

A tractor unit transports the box liner equipped with an automatic coupling to a trailer yard. There, the driver uncouples the semi-trailer in the conventional way by disconnecting the power and air plugs, lowering the support winch, opening the fifth wheel coupling and pulling the tractor unit out from under the semi-trailer.

The terminal tractor unit now drives under the Box Liner Automatic and immediately after the mechanical coupling process between the kingpin and the fifth wheel coupling, the electrical and air connections are automatically established via the drilled-out fifth wheel pin. In addition, a Powerline system connection is automatically established from the terminal tractor unit to the semi-trailer in order to ensure the functionality of the semi-trailer's lighting system. At the same time, the lifting function of the electric landing gear is activated.

When the terminal tractor unit lowers the Box Liner Automatic, the connections are automatically released and the lowering function of the landing gear is activated. All previously manual processes are therefore carried out automatically without the driver of the terminal tractor having to leave the cab. A new dirt cover developed by Aucos enables this multifunctional application to also work with conventional and automated tractor units.
